Strut Meetings / Events 2016
21st December 2016 Strut Meeting - Crowfield Club House 7:30pm

The December meeting is the annual Christmas drinks and nibbles combined with the Chairman's Quiz - not sure what fiendish plan Mick has for this years quiz, but if anything like previous years should be 'entertaning' evening...

It's very much a social evening so partners and friends most welcome to come along and join in the fun

16th November 2016 Strut Meeting - Crowfield Club House 7:30pm

Guest speaker for the November Meeting will be David Cook, of Shadow fame, who will be coming along to talk and show video/photos about his life in aviation.

A big thank you must go to Strut Member Anthony Preston who suggested and contacted David to arrange this.

19st October 2016 Strut Meeting - visit to NPAS Wattisham

I have been contact by Paul Phillips who, as well was wanting to join the strut, has offered us a visit to the NPAS (National Police Air Service) unit at Wattisham

Paul is a serving police officer with the unit and will be on duty on 19th Oct, so will be on hand to show us around, although there is no guarantee the helicopter will be there, as this will depend on if it is called out on an operation - so fingers crossed for a quiet evening.

This is actually a well timed visit, as the unit will be moving out to join forces with the Essex unit early next spring at Boreham.

We will be met at the main gates of Wattisham airfield by our host, Paul Phillips, at 19:30 to be escorted to the NPAS unit - Therefore if you are coming please DON'T BE LATE

As will be going on the base, it would be ideal if we could have as few a vehicles as possible, so car sharing would be good, although Steve has also offered to take one of his Mini-buses with collection/drop-off at Crowfield Airfield. This will leave Crowfield at 19:00 Sharp....

If you wish to come along could you please let Martyn Steggalls () know by this coming Wednesday evening (12th) so initial numbers and details can be sent to Paul, as Thursday will be his last shift before the 19th. Although this is not a total cut-off date and if needs be others can be added to the list up to the 18th

Please also indicate whether you be using the offer of the minibus (which has 16 passenger seats), or coming by car. If by car please include Make/Model, Colour and Registration.

On the evening you will also need to bring along photo id (e.g. Passport or Driving Licence).

The Wattisham main gates are in Roman Road IP7 7RA

21st September 2016 Strut Meeting - Crowfield Club House 7:30pm

Strut member David Keeble has offered to show his collection of historical photos of aviation in East Anglia up to 1950's

As this probably won't take up all the evening, an adjournment to pub may well be in order afterwards.

28th August 2016 Monewden Airfield Open Day

The Strut is supporting Steve and Lisa Eustace with their Monewden Airfield Open Day on the 28th August.

Fly-in from 10am - No Landing fee & Free BBQ

With strut aircarft and invited visitors, we ares expected approx 30 aircarft to fly-in

Local villagers have been invited from 1pm and ATC cadets will be on site during the afternoon

While Steve's crew will be looking after the BBQ, we will still need help with some other tasks.
  • Willing "pushers" to help the marshalling team (Ian & Edward) to man-handle the visiting aircraft on/off parking slots.
  • Escorting small groups of villagers around the parked aircraft
  • There were also planned to have an aircraft on the "public" area, for which we were in need of volunteers to watch over and talk to the visitors about the aircraft and flying in general

17th August 2016 Strut Meeting - Monewden Airfield from 6:30pm

Mick Gill will be bringing along a number of Drones to Monewden Airfield to demonstrate their capabilities and go over the rules an regulations of operating them. There should also be the chance for others to have a go....

For the June meeting David Styles from PilotAware will be coming along to give a presentation on the PilotAware system - http://www.pilotaware.com

If anyone has a tablet etc running SkyDemon or similar then these would be good to bring as they can be connected to the PilotAware units and see other units and other aircraft (although by the time of the evening the only other stuff in the air is likely to be commercial)
